Solutions for cattle breeding

TrophoSYS's innovative methods enable cattle breeding to improve breeding results by separating live and dead cells in the ejaculate, and to specifically rear them by separating sperm containing X and Y chromosomes.

The company is breaking new ground worldwide with its live/dead separation process and is currently the only provider with this highly efficient technology. The device development has been completed, toxicity tests have already been successfully implemented and the necessary field studies have started.

When it comes to separating sperm containing X and Y chromosomes, TrophoSYS is taking its own approach and is using a highly efficient technology that has not yet been used in this way. The development of the device has also been completed here, but the biotechnological finalization of the process is still pending and has not yet been finalized.Even today, in the current proof-of-concept stage, sperm can be separated into female and male cells by over 90% with almost native cell health and high yield.

Our technologies are based on the use of different surface properties of the respective cell species and on the use of specially developed auxiliary material concepts that significantly increase the differentiability of these surface properties. The actual separation takes place in a device developed by TrophoSYS, which does not have a negative effect on cell health or even can be genetically manipulated.

The success of the separation technology designed to date for cattle has led TrophoSYS to already be taking preparatory measures to extend the technology concept to other mammals.

Other areas of livestock breeding are also extremely interested in improving and optimizing ejaculates and in a functioning gender-specific separation method.TrophoSYS's separation technologies represent solutions that can, in principle, enable effective and economical breeding.

Consistent implementation by the end customer can enable optimized and targeted breeding, resulting in greater economic efficiency and lower emissions at the same time, and an overall smaller stock will then produce the same output as currently.

This in turn also meets the demands regarding climate targets, since fewer animals also means less feed and land requirements as well as less CO2, methane and faeces production.

TrophoSYS is thus developing urgently needed processes that serve both animal welfare and the climate, as well as ensuring greater efficiency and profitability, thus allowing farmers to manage their livestock sustainably and carefully.
